About Guardian Way

Guardian Way is a home safety and household hardware supplier in Meridian, Idaho. We stock the
equipment that sits unnoticed in a house until the night it matters — alarms, extinguishers,
first-aid, door hardware and safes — and we publish the standard each item was tested to on its
own page.

Why we started

The category has a particular problem. Almost everything in it is sold on adjectives. A smoke alarm
is “advanced”. A deadbolt is “heavy duty”. A safe is “fireproof”. None of those words has a definition,
and the buyer, who is usually replacing something that has just failed or reached the end of its life,
has no way to compare two products except on price and packaging.

Meanwhile the actual information exists. Alarms are tested to UL 217 and UL 2034. Deadbolts are
graded 1, 2 or 3 under ANSI/BHMA A156.36. Fire-resistant safes carry a UL 72 class and a duration.
Extinguishers carry a letter-and-number rating that tells you exactly which fires they are for and how
much of one. All of it is published, and almost none of it makes it onto a product page.

So the catalogue is built the other way round. Every plate carries the specification and the standard,
in a table, before the description. Where no standard applies — a window security bar, a wall safe
with no fire rating, a document bag — we print a dash and say so in the description rather than
implying a rating that does not exist. That last part matters more than the first.

How we choose what to stock

Three questions. Does it hold a published rating from a body that tests rather than certifies on
paper? Does the part that does the work — the bolt, the sensor, the seal — match the rating,
rather than sitting behind a decorative shell that does not? And can an ordinary person fit and maintain
it without a trade licence, because equipment that needs a specialist to stay working generally stops
working.

That rules out a lot: alarms with unstated sensor types, extinguishers with no bracket and no service
tag, safes rated by their own manufacturer against a standard nobody publishes. What is left is a
shorter catalogue than most, arranged by the room the problem shows up in rather than by product type,
because nobody sets out to buy a Class K extinguisher — they set out to make the kitchen safe.

Where we are

Guardian Way LLC is an Idaho limited liability company. We are at 4595 S Cinder Cove Ave, Meridian,
ID 83642, and we ship from here across the United States. Orders placed before 13:00
Mountain Time go out the same business day.

What we will not do

We will not tell you a product meets a code requirement in your jurisdiction, because codes vary by
state and municipality and change. We will tell you exactly what standard it was tested to, and you or
your inspector can take it from there. We will not run fabricated reviews or invent testimonials. And
we will not describe a thing only by its strengths — every plate that has a limitation states it,
because a catalogue you cannot use to rule something out is not a catalogue.

Getting in touch

Write to support@guardianway.store. We answer during business hours, Monday to
Friday, 8:00 to 17:00 Mountain Time, and we would much rather answer a question before you order than
process a return afterwards.
