Alkaline nine-volts are the reason most alarms chirp at three in the morning: they lose capacity steadily and then fall off a cliff in cold weather. These are lithium, with a ten-year shelf life and the manufacture date printed on the cell itself rather than only on the packaging, so you can tell at a glance how old the one in the ceiling actually is.
Fits any alarm taking a standard 9V, including the interconnected units in this catalogue. If your alarm has a sealed ten-year battery it does not take these and does not need them.
Fitting and care. Write the install date on the cell with a marker before it goes in — the printed date is manufacture, not fitting, and the gap can be two years. Lithium 9Vs do not give the long tapering warning an alkaline does; when they go they go over a day or two, so change every alarm in the house on the same weekend rather than waiting for each chirp. Store spares at room temperature, not in a garage: cold does not damage them but a cold cell reads low and can trigger a false low-battery signal. Do not mix a lithium and an alkaline in a multi-cell device.
