Grade 1 is the top ANSI grade and the only one worth buying for a main entry: a full one-inch bolt throw, a hardened saw-resistant insert, and 10 strikes of 75 ft-lb without failing. Grade 3 deadbolts — which is most of what is sold — are tested to a fifth of that.
Comes with the reinforced strike and three-inch screws, because a Grade 1 bolt into a two-screw strike plate is a Grade 1 bolt in a Grade 3 door. Fits standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore.
Fitting and care. Fit the reinforced strike at the same time or the lock is over-specified for the door. Check the bolt throws its full inch into the strike with the door closed; if it stops short the door has dropped or the strike is misaligned, and a bolt that only half engages is a Grade 3 lock at best. Lubricate the cylinder annually with graphite or PTFE. Do not fit a rim of the wrong finish over it later — the exposed collar is part of the anti-drill protection, not decoration.
