In detail

A sliding window or patio door latch is a catch, not a lock, and it is designed to stop the sash rattling rather than to resist a shoulder. A bar in the track removes the travel entirely.

Steel, adjusts from 25 to 49 inches, with a pivoting foot so it can be lifted out of the way from inside without tools. No drilling, nothing permanent, and it comes out completely when you want the window open. We list no standard for it because none applies — it is a physical obstruction, and it works because of that.

Fitting and care. Measure the track opening with the sash fully closed and buy the size that adjusts to sit just short of it, so the bar drops in without force and cannot be shaken loose. Set the foot so the bar sits in the lower track channel rather than resting on the sash frame. Wipe the track clean before fitting; grit under the foot is what lets a bar creep. Take it out completely in warm weather rather than leaving it hinged up, because a pivoted bar left folded is a bar somebody forgets to put back down.
