A handleset puts the grip, the latch and the deadbolt on a single escutcheon in one finish, keyed alike so the entry door takes one key rather than two. It is the difference between a front door that looks specified and one that looks assembled from what the shop had.
Fits standard 2-3/8 to 2-3/4 inch backset on 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, reversible for either hand. For a main entry we would pair the handleset with the Grade 1 deadbolt on plate 11 instead of the Grade 2 supplied — the parts are interchangeable and we will key them alike on request.
Fitting and care. Check the bore spacing on the existing door before ordering: handlesets need a 5-1/2 inch centre-to-centre between the deadbolt and the handle bore on most residential prep. If you are upgrading the deadbolt half to Grade 1, say so at checkout and we will key the two cylinders alike before dispatch. Do not over-tighten the escutcheon screws on a timber door in winter; the stile moves seasonally and a hard-clamped plate will crack the finish. Lubricate the cylinder yearly with graphite or PTFE.
