In detail

General first-aid kits carry plasters and antiseptic and almost nothing for burns, which is the commonest kitchen injury by a distance. Hydrogel dressings cool the burn, keep it clean and come off without taking skin with them — which is what happens when a burn is dressed with dry gauze.

Four sizes from fingertip to forearm, plus a face and hand dressing, in a sealed module that drops into the kits on plates 10 and 19 or lives in a kitchen drawer on its own. Dated; the gel has a shelf life and the date is on each dressing, not just the box.

Fitting and care. Keep it in the kitchen within reach of the sink, because the first treatment for a burn is twenty minutes of cool running water and the dressing goes on after that, not instead of it. Check the dates twice a year; hydrogel dries out and a dressing past its date will stick. Once a sachet is opened it is used or discarded. For anything deeper than superficial, larger than a palm, or on a face, hand or joint, the dressing is what you use on the way to a doctor rather than instead of one.
