If a house is only going to have two extinguishers, these are the two: a 2.5 lb 2-A:10-B:C by the kitchen exit and a 5 lb 3-A:40-B:C by the door between the garage and the house.
Both rechargeable with metal valves and pressure gauges, both with steel wall brackets, and the service tag kit from plate 52 included so the annual check gets recorded. Bought separately, about $107.
Fitting and care. Fit both on the same day and start both tags the same day. Kitchen unit between the cooker and the exit; garage unit by the door back into the house, never behind a parked car. Check both gauges monthly on the same reminder as the alarms. Invert and shake both twice a year. If either discharges, even for a second, it goes for recharge — a partly used extinguisher will not hold pressure and the gauge can still read green for weeks afterwards.
