Storm door closer and lock set

A single pneumatic closer on a storm door puts all the load at one point, the door starts to rack within a season, and by the second winter it no longer latches. A dual closer set shares the load top and bottom and keeps the door square.

Includes a keyed handle set with a deadlatch, hold-open washers, and the wind chain that stops a gust taking the door past its stop and tearing the top hinge out. Fits standard aluminium storm doors 30 to 36 inches wide.

Fitting and care. Fit the top closer first and set the door square before the bottom one goes on, or you will chase the alignment. Set both closers to the same tension; uneven tension racks the door worse than a single closer does. Fit the wind chain — it is the part people skip and it is the reason storm doors tear out at the top hinge. Adjust the closing speed for winter: the same setting that is right in July will slam in January as the fluid thickens.
