The kitchen fires that get out of hand are the ones nobody was in the room for. These canisters mount under the range hood above the hob and discharge automatically when flame reaches them, dropping a wet chemical agent into the pan.
UL 300A listed for residential range hoods. Two canisters covers a standard four-burner. Five-year service life with the date on the body. It is a backstop, not a replacement for the blanket on plate 50 or the extinguisher on plate 7 — it covers the case where you are not there to use either.
Fitting and care. Mount under the range hood following the template for your hob width, with the canisters over the burners most used. Check the clearance to the hood filter. This is a backstop for an unattended fire, not a replacement for the blanket or the extinguisher, and it should not change where either of those live. Five-year service life with the date on the body — put it on the same six-monthly reminder as the alarms so the expiry is noticed. After any discharge, both canisters are replaced and the hood is cleaned.
